Jasen Chelfi

(Zagreb, 1979), cello

Jasen finished his elementary and secondary musical schooling in the class of Prof. Dobrila Berković Magdalenić.  He enrolled in the Zagreb Music Academy in 1997 in the class of Prof. Nikola Ružević, graduating in 2001 in the class of Prof. Andrej Petrač.  During the course of his education he further perfected his knowledge with Valter Dešpalj, Ralph Kirschbaum, Steven Isselis, Silvia Sondeckiene, David Grigorijan, Vladimir Perlin, Eleonore Schoenfeld, Leslie Parnas, Jens Peter Maintz, Phillip Muller, Boris Pergamenchikov et al.  He obtained his master’s degree in the class of Prof. Mario Brunello. In 1999 he was one of two Croatian musicians who played in the Mahler Youth Orchestra under the direction of Frantz Westler Mosta and Claudio Abaddo.

He has been a member of the Zagreb Philharmonic Orchestra since 2002, and cello section leader since 2004.  Since 2010 he has taught at the Pučišća summer school on the island of Brač.  He has received many awards, both for his chamber music performances and as a soloist.  He is active in Cantus and Acoustic Project ensembles.
He is also a member of the Diaphason association, with which he performs in its eponymous festival.
